Green Tara – Great Mother and Liberator

Green in color, she is associated with Amoghasiddhi, the Karma family, the wind element and with motion. Her special attributes are her speed and ability to protect beings from fear and dangers. She is depicted with her left foot withdrawn symbolizing her renunciation of worldly passion and with her right foot stepping from her lotus throne in order to help sentient beings.

This cd contains the performance of the Green Tara sadhana by Bardor Tulku Rinpoche and Umdze Lodro Samphel. It was recorded in 1998 in the Lineage Shrine Room of Karma Triyana Dharmachakra Monastery, Woodstock, New York.

The present Bardor Tulku Rinpoche was recognized at a young age by His Holiness the Sixteenth Gyalwa Karmapa as the third incarnation of Barway Dorje (Blazing Vajra). Nupchen Sangye Yeshe, a direct disciple of Guru Padmasambhava, became the first Bardor Tulku when he discovered terma. As the vajramaster of the sadhana on this cd, Rinpcohe chants and plays the bell and damaru (hand drum).

Umdze Lodro Samphel is the senior umdze (chant master) at Rumtek Dharma Chakra Center in Sikkim, India, the international seat of His Holiness Gyalwa Karmapa. During a course of study that spanned more than twenty years, he mastered all Tibetan musical instruments, chanting and all aspects of ritual performance of Karma Kagyu sadhanas. As umdze of the sadhana on this cd, Lama Lodro Samphel chants and plays rolmo (cymbals), drum, gyaling (horn), bell and damaru (hand drum) and doong (long horn).
